By creating an account or using Tailored Devotional ("the Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you may not use the Service.

Age Requirement: You must be at least 16 years old to use this Service.

2. Description of Service

Tailored Devotional is an AI-powered service that generates personalized Christian devotional content based on:

  • Biblical lectionary readings (Scripture references only)
  • Historical theological writings (public domain works)
  • Your stated preferences and interests

Important Disclaimers

  • Content is generated by artificial intelligence
  • AI can make errors, hallucinate, or produce theologically questionable content
  • This is NOT professional spiritual, religious, medical, or mental health advice
  • Not a substitute for clergy, spiritual director, therapist, or physician
  • Use at your own discretion and discernment

3. User Accounts

Account Creation

  • You must provide accurate information (email, preferences)
  • You are responsible for maintaining account security
  • One account per person

Account Termination

  • You may delete your account at any time via Settings
  • We may suspend or terminate accounts for Terms violations
  • Upon deletion, your data is removed per our Privacy Policy

4. Data Processing & Privacy

What We Collect

  • Email address and basic profile information
  • Preferences: language, country, timezone, lectionary choice
  • Spiritual interests and life circumstances (if provided by you)
  • Theologian selections
  • Usage data and generated devotionals

How We Use Your Data

Your data is processed to:

  • Generate personalized devotional content using AI (Google Gemini, OpenAI)
  • Create audio versions (OpenAI TTS, ElevenLabs)
  • Improve the Service
  • Send notifications (if enabled)

Data Sharing: Your preferences and interests are sent to third-party AI services (Google, OpenAI, ElevenLabs) to generate content. These providers process data under their own terms and privacy policies.

Your Rights (GDPR)

You have the right to:

  • Access your data (export via Settings)
  • Correct inaccurate data (update via Settings)
  • Delete your data (account deletion)
  • Withdraw consent at any time
  • File a complaint with a supervisory authority

5. User Responsibilities

Appropriate Use

You agree NOT to:

  • Upload copyrighted material without authorization (curators only)
  • Share sensitive personal information that could identify yourself or others
  • Use the Service for illegal, harmful, or abusive purposes
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or exploit the Service
  • Share your account credentials

Curator-Specific Obligations

If granted curator access, you agree to:

  • Only upload public domain or openly licensed theological works
  • Verify copyright status before uploading
  • Not upload material that is offensive, harmful, or fraudulent
  • Respect the integrity of theologian attributions

6. Intellectual Property

Bible References & Lectionaries

Devotionals reference Bible passages (citations only, not full texts) from lectionary systems that may be copyrighted:

  • Roman Catholic Lectionary: Adaptations from Ordo Lectionum Missae
  • Byzantine Lectionary: Data via Orthocal.info

Bible Quotations: The AI generates Bible quotations from its training data, not from copyrighted translations. Full passages should be accessed from authorized Bible sources.

Theologian Works

The Service includes excerpts from theological works in the public domain (pre-1928 in most jurisdictions). All works have been verified to be copyright-free.

AI-Generated Content

Devotionals generated by the Service are derivative works combining:

  • Biblical references (citations only)
  • Theologian excerpts (public domain)
  • AI-generated synthesis and reflection

You may use generated devotionals for personal, non-commercial purposes. Commercial use requires separate agreement.

7. Third-Party Services

The Service relies on:

  • Google Gemini (AI generation)
  • OpenAI (AI generation, embeddings, TTS)
  • ElevenLabs (TTS)
  • Supabase (database and authentication)
  • Render (web hosting)
  • Resend (email delivery)

These providers have their own Terms of Service. We are not responsible for their actions or policies.

8. Cookies

The Service uses minimal, strictly necessary cookies:

  • Authentication cookies: Required for login sessions (Supabase Auth)
  • Language preference cookie (preferred_locale): Stores your selected UI language. This is a functional cookie strictly necessary for the Service and does not require a cookie consent banner under the ePrivacy Directive.

We do not use any advertising, analytics, or tracking cookies.

9. AI Transparency (EU AI Act)

In compliance with Article 50 of the EU AI Act, we inform you that:

  • All devotional content is generated by artificial intelligence (Google Gemini, OpenAI)
  • Audio narration is synthetically generated (OpenAI TTS, ElevenLabs)
  • AI-generated content is clearly labeled as such throughout the Service

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED.

We DO NOT warrant that:

  • The Service will be error-free or uninterrupted
  • AI-generated content will be accurate, theologically sound, or appropriate
  • The Service meets your specific needs
  • Devotionals will not contain offensive or harmful content

Use at Your Own Risk.

11. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW:

We are NOT LIABLE for:

  • Decisions made based on devotional content
  • Spiritual, emotional, or mental harm from using the Service
  • AI errors, hallucinations, or theologically questionable output
  • Data loss or unauthorized access to your account
  • Third-party service failures (Google, OpenAI, etc.)

Exception: This does not limit liability for death, personal injury, or fraud.

12. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. Changes become effective upon posting, unless otherwise stated.

Continued use after changes = acceptance of new Terms.

We will notify users of material changes via email or in-app notification.

13. Governing Law & Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Sweden and the European Union.

EU users may file complaints with local consumer protection agencies or data protection authorities.
