Tailored Devotional

Questions and Answers

What is Tailored Devotional?

A directory of personalized daily devotional podcasts. Each feed has its own profile: a chosen lectionary (or none), specific theologians, a particular voice and angle. Anyone with the URL can listen, in a podcast player, on the web, or by subscribing to a daily email. Creators can build a feed in any of 15 languages, with optional AI audio narration.

How does each devotional get written?

A two-stage AI pipeline. First, a planning step picks the angle for the day, anchored in the lectionary reading and shaped by the feed's personality, recent news, and what's already been covered the last few days. Then a writing step pulls relevant passages from the feed's chosen theologians and weaves them into the final text. Optional audio is generated last.

Can an AI really preach?

No, an AI cannot preach like a human. An AI does not experience God or life. But leading AI models have been trained on the theology and sermons of countless Christian preachers and theologians, and they know every syllable of the Bible. They are therefore good at composing a meaningful theological message. Listening to an AI-written devotional is like reading a book, the book itself is not a living being, but it originated with living authors.

How does one listen wisely?

Every preacher knows that no two listeners hear the same sermon, words meet each heart differently. With an AI-written devotional, you remain the judge of what to embrace and what to discard. “Examine all things; hold fast to what is good” (1 Thess 5:21). “The wind/Spirit blows wherever it pleases” (John 3:8).

Is an AI Christian? Does it have theological convictions?

An AI is a machine trained on a wide variety of human thought. No AI is inherently aligned with any theological tradition. But Christian thinking and deep Bible knowledge are part of the training of leading AI models, and careful prompting, which is what Tailored Devotional does, can produce meaningful theological writing within different traditions. AI also has safety guardrails: even if a creator describes hateful or violent preferences, the system will not comply.

What data do you store?

If you only listen, we store nothing about you unless you sign up for a daily email, in which case we keep the email and an unsubscribe token, and you can unsubscribe with one click.

If you create a feed, we store your account, feed settings (theologians, lectionary, persona, language, etc.), and the devotionals generated for your feed. We do not sell or share your data. You can delete your account and everything tied to it at any time.

Privacy Policy for details. Do not enter sensitive personal information in feed preferences.

Is it free?

Listening is free for everyone. Creating a feed is free during beta. Running AI services has real costs, so we will eventually introduce a per-feed subscription for creators. Beta creators will be notified well in advance and are at no risk of being charged for anything they have not agreed to.
